Having tried to buy some soap today I was frustrated to discover that my local Boots had been completely cleared out of all soap, anti-bacterial wipes and sanitisers. And there was very low stock on some other very ordinary items.
I'm clearly rather late to the stock-piling party - but if I join in does that not compound the problem? And what does it do to the already stressed retail sector?
On the other hand given the number of times we're all supposed to be washing our hands right now then maybe access to antibacterial soap needs to be classified as a basic human right now!
The government earlier said there was "no need" for coronavirus stockpiling, as worried shoppers clear shelves. Tesco and Waitrose are among retailers restricting sales of essential food and household items, in-store or online. Shoppers have reported shortages of items such as toilet roll and hand soap at their local stores. Several shops have introduced sales restrictions on certain items, to ease the flow of supply.
